Counselling for Trainee Counsellors
Personal counselling to support you through your training and course requirements.
As part of counselling training, many students are required to complete a set number of personal counselling hours.
I offer personal counselling for trainee counsellors who are looking for a supportive, confidential space alongside their studies, placement and supervision.
The focus is on you as the trainee and the personal counselling element of your course — giving you space to reflect, build self-awareness and experience the counselling relationship from the client’s perspective.
Trainee counsellor sessions
Personal counselling for trainee counsellors can be offered face-to-face, online or by telephone, depending on the requirements of your training provider.

Face-to-face sessions are available on Wednesdays and Saturdays from my counselling room at Unit 7, Bere Farm, Lytchett Matravers, near Poole, Dorset.
Online and telephone counselling are available throughout the week.
Before beginning, please check whether your course has any specific requirements about how personal counselling must be delivered.
Reduced rate for trainee counsellors
I offer a reduced session rate for trainee counsellors completing personal counselling as part of their training.

You’re welcome to get in touch before booking so we can discuss your course requirements and whether I’m able to meet them.
Supporting you through your training
Counselling training can involve a lot of personal reflection.
Having your own counselling can give you space to explore your experiences, notice patterns, develop greater self-awareness and reflect on how your own life experiences may shape you as a developing counsellor.
This is separate from supervision and academic teaching. It is your own personal counselling space.
Meeting your course requirements
If your course requires you to complete personal counselling hours, please check your training provider’s requirements before starting.
Requirements can vary between courses, including:
the number of counselling hours required.
the qualifications or professional membership your counsellor must hold.
whether face-to-face, online or telephone counselling is accepted.
whether proof of attendance is required.
What personal counselling can offer during training

Space for reflection
Time to step away from your course and focus on your own experiences.

Greater self-awareness
An opportunity to understand your patterns, responses and relationships more deeply.

Personal development
Space to reflect on the ways you are growing and changing throughout your training.

Experience of being the client
A chance to experience the counselling relationship from the other side, which can be valuable as you develop your own practice.

A warm, person-centred approach
I’m Katie, a qualified counsellor working with adults, children and young people.
My approach is warm, person-centred and non-judgemental. I aim to offer a calm, confidential space where you can talk openly, reflect on your own experience and feel genuinely heard.
As a trainee counsellor, your sessions remain focused on you and your personal development, rather than becoming supervision or an extension of your course.
